JULY 26, 2022: In her first year of marriage, Ancicalia Simango (20) was exposed to ridicule from her family and friends as she failed to conceive as expected. In 2021, Ancicalia fell pregnant and joined a care group where she learnt about exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months. She was rewarded in April 2022, she gave birth to “When I delivered my son, I started to breastfeed him. My mother-in-law suggested that I give him porridge but I refused because I was taught that is wrong.” © Charmaine Chitate/CARE

JANUARY 12, 2022: "I want to stop living in a thatched house because when the wind comes, I have to renew it because grass rots," says Winnet. She adds, "Our homestead is unique in that we have contours that most people won't understand." © Charmaine Chitate/ CARE

MAY 31, 2021: At 43 years old, SEBINA MASUKUTA carried eight pregnancies to term—four of them being home births. “My last pregnancy was difficult. I didn’t have enough to eat, and the baby kept threatening to present early because of my asthma attacks. My daughter is seven months old and I don’t know why she still can’t walk.” Out of eight pregnancies, Sebina lost two children under the age of 5. © Charmaine Chitate/ CARE

×PHILOMINA RONGEDZAI (46) proudly stands inside her house, “Takunda yauya, ndakakwanisa kutenga ma bag 5 esemende ndikawedzera kukudza imba yangu nekuwedzera imwe room kuti aite matatu”, after joining Takunda, I managed to buy 5 bags of cement which helped me to extend my house and to add another room to make them three rooms using.

MARCH 16, 2023: Keen on taking on a solar installation course, Nomore Murima (21) had no qualms relocating from Mutare district to attend classes at Mushagashe Vocational Training Centre. “When I heard the list of courses on offer, I told myself that I should go an challenge men taking this course too. Now, If you ask me to instal a basic solar system for your house, I can do it,” says Nomore with pride. © Charmaine Chitate/ CARE

MARCH 16, 2023: Musha we Moto is a Shona phrase loosely translated, in this instance, to mean
house of energy. Located at the heart of Jerera growth point. Today Panashe Matavire (22), Nomore
Murima (21), Jephas Zhangare (21) and Prince Shonhai (24) are standing at the ready to take on any
new business opportunities. "Our trainer taught us how to quote for and instal home and pump solar

for people in Tsigo village. With the hopes of taking over his father's business in the near future
Ngonidzashe said, "My father is overwhelmed by the workload. I want to be in a position to train my

MARCH 16, 2023: "This is the second wave of students we have taken on attachment. I mentored the first

MARCH 16, 2023: A metal fabrication student tries to align two pieces of metal as part of the mitering
process. Addmore Dadirai (36) a supervisor at Prime Steel Private Limited, Jerera growth point in Zaka
had this to say, "Most of the students we take on struggle with mitering. It is a process where two metal
pieces are joined and cut at angle and failure to master this skill afffects the quality of the product
being created." As a result, Addmore personally supervises each student as they practice mitering. ©
